Carmageddon 2011

Part of the Sepulveda Pass Improvement Project, the construction to a 10-mile stretch of the 405 freeway was scheduled for the weekend of July 16-17, 2011 and required closing part of the 405 freeway. Dubbed "Carmageddon" and "Carpocalypse" by the media, who claimed that the closure would be catastrophic to Los Angeles and lead to immense traffic jams, many Angelinos fled the city or stayed home for the weekend.
